Digital Concepts to promote the EnOcean Alliance

/ Press Releases

San Ramon, CA, USA – January 23, 2018 – The EnOcean Alliance and Digital Concepts strengthen their collaboration and build bridges for a global network in the Internet of Things. Together, they will promote the development of smart building solutions based on the EnOcean wireless standard and thus usher in a new era in smart buildings.

The partnership between the EnOcean Alliance and Digital Concepts promotes the standardization of smart building solutions for the Internet of Things by connecting the world of energy harvesting wireless technology with the Internet Protocol (IP). This makes it possible to integrate energy harvesting wireless sensor solutions based on the EnOcean wireless standard into enhanced, scalable IoT systems, such as IBM Watson, Apple® HomeKit™ and the Open Connectivity Foundation. In a completely interoperable network, collected data can thus be used for the intelligent control of different devices independently of the technology used, the wireless system or the manufacturer. This scenario forms the basis for the Internet of Things and cognitive buildings.

Setting standards together

In close collaboration, the EnOcean Alliance and Digital Concepts define and expand standards for maintenance-free, wireless solutions for the IoT. Together, the two partners standardize the EnOcean-to-IP interface and simplify the use of IoT applications. This is facilitated by the seamless communication between the EnOcean protocol (ISO / IEC 14543-3-1X) and the IP protocol over an IP interface, which forms the basis for integrating the data into cross-standard, open platforms.

The result is a fully interoperable network, in which the data can be used for the intelligent control of different devices. This allows, for example, the integration of energy-harvesting wireless technology into the IBM Watson IoT Platform for predictive and real-time analysis of facilities. These solutions can be used for different applications, for example in asset management, ambient assisted living or insurance, hotel and campus projects.

“After many years of successful collaboration, Digital Concepts will from now on actively support and further pursue the development of energy-efficient building solutions on the basis of the EnOcean wireless standard in its role as promoter. Combined with smart IoT systems, maintenance-free wireless sensor solutions help optimize the use of buildings, develop new service and business models and make buildings even more flexible, energy-efficient and cost-effective overall,” explains Graham Martin, CEO and Chairman of the EnOcean Alliance.

Oliver Fischer, CEO of Digital Concepts

“Digital Concepts lives for the idea of self-powered, networked and intelligent building solutions and works together with other international members for sustainable growth in the industry. In a strong partnership and with the help of an extensive ecosystem, we work with the EnOcean Alliance on developing interoperable, self-powered wireless solutions as the standard for the Internet of Things. We are delighted that we can contribute to this complex network technology and help standardize software-supported processes for the EnOcean Alliance,” remarks Oliver Fischer, Managing Director of Digital Concepts.

The EnOcean Alliance, which has more than 400 members, is one of the most successful alliances in the area of intelligent building control. The non-profit organization standardizes and develops intelligent building solutions integrating energy harvesting wireless technology.

EnOcean-based sensors and devices operate large numbers of IoT devices efficiently and supply reliable data to IoT systems. Furthermore, the EnOcean Alliance offers the benefit of a broad, proven ecosystem of interoperable energy harvesting wireless sensor solutions, which are available for intelligent buildings worldwide. These solutions help optimize the utilization of buildings, create new service models and make buildings more flexible, more energy-efficient and altogether more cost-effective.
