EnOcean Alliance to exhibit at MCE 2018: Maintenance-free wireless solutions shaping the future of intelligent buildings

/ Press Releases

The organization will be presenting professional automation technology ranging from commercial buildings to the Smart Home, based on energy harvesting wireless technology.

San Ramon, CA, USA/Milano, Italy – March 13, 2018 – At the Mostra Convegno Expocomfort 2018 (Milano, March 13-16, 2018), together with its member AFRISO, the EnOcean Alliance will present energy harvesting wireless solutions for building automation and the smart home. The self-powered switches and sensors based on EnOcean technology offer flexibility in terms of positioning, can be expanded at any time and are maintenance-free. In addition, the EnOcean Alliance offers the advantages of an extensive and established ecosystem of interoperable energy harvesting wireless sensor solutions that are available to intelligent buildings worldwide. In conjunction with cloud-based platforms such as IBM Watson IoT or Apple® HomeKit™, generated sensor data can be used for intelligent device and building control, for example, to optimize facility management, but also to realize completely new services in the area of building use. These solutions help optimize the utilization of buildings, create new service models and make buildings more flexible, energy-efficient and altogether more cost-effective. Visitors can experience maintenance-free sensor solutions for intelligent and sustainable buildings at the AFRISO booth G02 in hall 5.
The EnOcean Alliance, which has more than 400 members, is one of the most successful alliances in the area of intelligent building control. The non-profit organization has defined standardized application profiles as one of its main objectives, so that EnOcean-based products of different manufacturers can work together seamlessly. Users can thus network systems and disciplines more easily and add applications at any time.

EnOcean Alliance – Maintenance-free sensor solutions based on the EnOcean wireless standard

Thanks to the comprehensive and interoperable ecosystem of maintenance-free wireless sensor solutions based on the EnOcean wireless standard, the EnOcean Alliance combines intelligent buildings with the Internet of Things. This enables new applications in building automation such as intelligent asset management, predictive maintenance as well as ambient assisted living (AAL) and insurance projects.

Through the partnership with the organization Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF) and IBM, the EnOcean Alliance has significantly strengthened its program for building automation and the Internet of Things. Together, they will provide sensor information in the cloud and develop self-powered wireless solutions as open standard for maintenance-free solutions to be used in cognitive buildings and to build an interoperable network beyond the boundaries of one’s own eco-system.

In conjunction with IBM´s Watson IoT Platform, a fully managed, cloud-hosted service, and the Smart EnOcean Gateway from Digital Concepts, self-powered EnOcean-based sensors enable maintenance-free solutions for Real Estate Management to increase operational, financial and environmental performance of facilities. Standardized sensor profiles help ensure the interoperability of more than 1,500 products from the EnOcean ecosystem, making it possible to develop interoperable system solutions. These solutions can be used in asset management, ambient assisted living projects, insurance or hotel and campus projects, giving maintenance-free wireless switches and sensors based on EnOcean technology.

“There is a rapid development of intelligent buildings and soon they will be able to integrate IoT devices independently, generate a large amount of reliable data und use this information for building optimization, helping to create greater awareness of environmental issues and energy costs. Thanks to our cooperation with strong partners, we build the basis to directly connect self-powered wireless sensor solutions to the Internet and thus to open IoT platforms, enabling product manufacturers to develop new exciting solutions for smart and cognitive buildings. This makes EnOcean the most important wireless standard for maintenance-free applications for building automation and the IoT,” says Graham Martin, CEO and Chairman of the EnOcean Alliance.

Self-powered wireless solutions for intelligent buildings

At MCE 2018, EnOcean Alliance member AFRISO will present its product range AFRISO Smart Home for building protection, comfort and room climate. The overall solution includes different sensors, such as a water leakage and temperature sensor, and actuators as well as the multi-protocol AFRISOhome Gateway HG 01. The gateway seamlessly connects energy harvesting wireless solutions with other building standards. The new interior room siren AIS 10 PRO completes the system and provides effective all-round protection for break-in and hazard detection. With AFRISO Smart Home, users can easily enter the connected world of building automation and security technology, plan these systems individually and add more modules to them as desired – even improving energy efficiency and creating a pleasant living and working environment. The free AFRISOhome app (iOS and Android) enables users to display sensor data, switch actuators and individually automate functions motion.
