Il supercollaudato standard wireless EnOcean (ISO/IEC 14543-3-1X) nella classe sub-1GHz è studiato appositamente per l’utilizzo negli edifici, con una portata che può raggiungere i 30 metri negli spazi chiusi. Diverse aziende offrono dispositivi interoperabili a 868 MHz (Europa e Cina), 902 MHz (Nordamerica) e 928 MHz (Giappone).

Sfruttando energia generata da luce, movimento e variazione di temperatura, non servono nè cavi nè batterie per commutare oppure rilevare dati trasmessi da sensori di temperatura, umidità e presenza di persone. Sensori e attuatori possono così dialogare direttamente tra di loro, oppure connettersi al cloud attraverso un controller o una centralina per applicazioni che richiedono il telerilevamento e il controllo tramite dispositivi portatili.
